Collateral Damage
Films I See by Gina Wong
I am bored
Here is a challenge for our film buffs : detect this formula in any film you see in the next few weeks.
Our hero, always a man, faces a challenge. He lost his woman, either a wife or girlfriend. She either died or divorced and is removed from our story. As the story develop, the man meets a new woman. They overcome dangers or difficulties. They fall in love during the process. End of the movie. Repeat.
Collateral Damage : The protagonist Gordon is a fireman. His wife and son was killed by a bomb; our hero hunts down the killers. He went to where the terrorist live and there he met a young mother with a son. There follows much gun fights and chases. End of movie.
Just like Heavens : A lonely landscape architect David falls for the spirit of the beautiful woman who used to live in his new apartment. His first wife died; he moved into Elizabeth's apartment. Elizabeth is a doctor, who has never been in love. David and Elizabeth falls in love.
Oblivion
Just Like Heavens : directed by Mark Waters (2005) 95min
Oblivion : directed by Joseph Kosinski
Sara 雛妓 (2015)
sara.
Description : Sara is a journalist, when her last article that accuses many politicians and businessmen in the use of sexual services was rejected by her chief editor, she moves to Thailand. There Sara meets a Thai child prostitute. That meeting made her remember her own dark past
So if you want to see films with a different formula, try PUFF. It's cool. Yeah..

Films I See by Gina Wong
Reality rap shit , Niggaz wit' attitude , Skateland in the 1980s. Cube and Dr Dre
What were you listening to in 1989? While fans in Hong Kong was humming to the love ballads of Alan Tam's 愛在深秋, there was a revolution boiling in South Central Los Angeles by five black young men who decided to sing about the discrimination and violence from the city's law enforcement. Hong Kong, you gotta catch up a little. Ditch the ballads.
"Mum just want to do the best for you "
"Yah. I wanna do the best for me "
" hello manager , Are these rappers ? "
"You can't come down here and hares these guys just because they are black. "
"Fuck tha police ... "
We gave the people truth.
Why girls must make films

Almost every important book that I have been taught in primary school had been written by a man. Even the most beautiful poems were feelings and perspectives were those of a man. And when I was a kid there was a hidden massage in all those literature I read and that it was the boy who were the main character. The voice of that book has always been from the head of a boy.
The girl ? Well, the girl is almost always the love interest of the story. She is the subject of an interest , albeit love , of the boy. It could be Harry Potter or David from I Am David. Or even the Bible. It is never a story told by a girl's perspective. They were books from four guys. John, Peter, Mathew and Luke. I used to wonder if that Luke is the same Luke with Skywalker who is off course another boy.
And that's why I was blown away by the TV series Girls. Somebody has the audacity to write in a girl's point of view and even dare to call the title of the script Girls. I was never explicitly taught that our stories are important enough to be told. In fact, after so many years living out in this world, I sometimes think I too have lost my voice.
For I like many women have lost their true self and has one narrow version of feminity to be thrust upon them. The church group which I belonged to as a teenager told me that God fearing girls do not have sex and have sex is only after marriage. Suffice to say that I was a very sensitive and serious girl. It was only years later ....

Notes from afar
You read travel essays and guides to places where the writer usually figured out an exotic city and seemed to know everything about it. That usually makes me wondered how they could do that. Every place that I had ever been to is as much of a mystery to me as it is of its people and more so after I visited the place.
This is a travelogue of a girl who had finally become a woman through her wanders in this big wild world.
Gina has embarked on solo journeys for the most is her life. Her furthest is to the Easter Island , her most remote in Greenland and her longest foray is at Papeeti on the coast of Brazil. Udaipur and Uluru are two places that starts with a U that she loved and Morrea and Maui ; She had lived in London for 12 years, Shanghai for 7 and Is now based in Hong Kong. .. to be continued..
